Editing Deal Stages in HubSpot

Overview

Specificity is key! Make sure your deal pipelines match your sales process by editing the stage properties on HubSpot’s CRM platform.

To do this, click on the settings icon on the right of the top navigation bar in your HubSpot account. Scroll down to “Data Management,” open up the “Objects” dropdown and select “Deals.”

From there, it’ll automatically be on the “Setup” bar; be sure to select “Pipelines” to the right of it. Once there, view the existing pipelines and click on the one you want to edit.

Now, there will probably be the automated HubSpot deal stages if the pipeline hasn’t been edited before. But these, and all other stages, can be edited from this page.

You can edit current stage names, as well as your win probability. You can also edit any fields that need to be filled out for that particular stage by clicking “Edit properties” on the right of the stage.

If you’d like to rearrange the stages, click on the small stacked horizontal lines to the left of the stage you want to move and drag it to its new spot.

To create a new deal stage, scroll down the existing stages and click “Add a deal stage” and answer the prompted questions. To delete a stage, hover your mouse over the stage you want to delete and a “Delete” button will appear.

Ordinarily, after a deal prospect is identified, it goes through the following stages: qualified lead, intent, and close (either closed lost or closed won).

Stages within the sales hub are very useful for any sales team to determine if they are following the set-out sales process when closing deals.

If I want to edit the stages of one of my sales pipelines I can do so by selecting settings, on the left sidebar, scrolling down to data management. Opening up the objects drop down and selecting deals. From there it'll be naturally on the setup bar. Make sure that you select the pipeline's bar. Once you're in here, you'll want to select the pipeline that you want to edit. In this case, I only have the sales pipeline here. However, you may have multiple, make sure that you're on the correct one before making any edits.

You'll get a list here under configure of your current stage names, as well as your win probability, and any fields that need to be filled out for that particular stage. If I want to add a deal stage, or if I want to edit, I can do so quite easily to edit the name of a stage. I can go ahead, just click directly in here, this to contract in there. It's done. I can go ahead and save this. I also have the option to go ahead and move where my stages are.

And it's quite easy to go ahead and change these around. If I want to go ahead and add a deal stage I can do so by selecting here, you'll see a new stage will pop up. I can go ahead and add a stage name for this. You'll have the option to go ahead and select what the probability of winning actually is here. And then you also can add a stage property here. In this case we'll just select something random that will basically be required to go ahead and fill in if you select this check box here.

Or it could just be something that you are essentially asking your team to fill in. The big thing here is if this is required, it will not allow them to go ahead and move into this stage without filling this out. If it's not required, it's something that will be available, but will not necessarily be required to do.
